I just received an email this weekend from CA Secretary of State Debra Bowen indicating that she is considering running for the CA-36 seat vacated by Jane Harman. I know a lot of good progressives in the state, country and here on DK will be behind Marcy Winograd and feel passionate about her candidacy. If Debra runs, can we agree in advance not to throw each other's candidate under the bus?
Debra moved from the Legislature to her current office, so she has yet to flesh out her agenda, but I assure those of you outside the state that she IS a progressive who worked hard to rid us of shoddy election equipment including Diebold. Personally, I would like to see her remain in Sacramento to further protect the electoral process, but if she runs for Congress, I might be inclined to support her. However, I respect each likely candidate and I don't want another Duckworth-Cegelis situation. Primaries are good for the party and for Democracy. No candidate is entitled to the nomination and no one is obligated to drop out. In this case, we should celebrate the fact that we will have two great people to choose from
